A Memory of Truth? Is a new play written by Marc Deaton, with music arranged and composed by Nathaniel Baker.
This new play is an abstract look at the lives and relationships of three women spanning the 1940’s to the 1990’s, in the American Southwest.
By Marc Deaton
The three women include Delilah and her two daughters, Dinah and Eve. The only other character is Thaddius, who acts as a narrator and is the son of Dinah. Through a series of scenes, this three-act play uncovers the “memories” and the “truths” that the characters experience in their lives together. A Memory of Truth? explores the forbidden world of betrayal, abuse and family loyalty. It is rigorous, harrowing, poignant and funny all at once, and includes music performed by the characters, inspired by traditional hymns, Gregorian chant, Mozart and Fauré.
The play examines the harsh realities that women faced and the repeating life patterns that seem to follow all of us, and often end up defining us.
The cast for the upcoming work includes: Patty Carver, Marc Deaton, Rebecca Ellis and Val Moranto.
The project is currently being developed in CT, having workshops in September 2020, and will be presented fully staged as part of the Madison Lyric Stage 2021 season, in May of 2021.
